New Agent Guide

Agent Eligibility

In order to write coverages through TWIA an agent/agency must hold a General Lines Agent-Property & Casualty license. (This is formerly known as a local recording agent license or a Non-Resident Property & Casualty license if agent is outside the state of Texas.) The TWIA database will list an agent/agency exactly as shown on their license. If an agent/agency wishes to use a name and/or address other than shown on their license, this name and/or address must be registered with the Texas Department of Insurance under their license. An agent/agency should provide TWIA with the following:

  • A copy of the agent/agency license - General Lines Agent - Property & Casualty
  • A copy of the dba and/or branch location registration if different than shown on license
  • A tax identification number or social security number
  • A W9 form completed exactly as the agent/agency prepares their tax returns (The name and address on this form does not have to conform to the name and address shown on license.)

Agent Commission

  • Standard Windstorm Policies (Commercial and Residential - 16% of gross premium
  • Mobile Home Policies - 12% of gross premium

The agent's commission should be subtracted from the gross premium before submitting payment to TWIA.
