Galveston Satellite Location Available for On-Camera Public Comment as TWIA Board Considers Recommended Rate Increase

Members of the public will have an opportunity to provide on-camera comments in Galveston to the TWIA Board of Directors when they consider a recommended rate increase on August 3.

The TWIA Board of Directors will meet virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, August 3 at 9:00 a.m. CT. Space will be available at The Tremont House Hotel in Galveston for interested individuals to make public comments during the meeting via Zoom video. No members of the TWIA Board or TWIA leadership will be present in Galveston. A limited number of TWIA staff will be on-site in Galveston to facilitate the public comment process.

TWIA’s Actuarial & Underwriting Committee has recommended an increase of 5 percent for rates on commercial and residential policies. More information on the August 3 Board meeting and the recommended rate increase to be considered is available here.

TWIA’s third quarter meeting is traditionally held in Galveston. The Association has held Board and Committee meetings virtually since March 2020 due to the COVID pandemic and plans to resume in-person meetings with its December 7, 2021 meeting in Corpus Christi.

The Tremont requests that visitors who are not vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus wear a mask and practice social distancing while on hotel premises. TWIA will accommodate social distancing and make masks and hand sanitizer available to those attending the meeting at the satellite location.

Parking is available at the Tremont House Hotel valet for $7.00 per day. Hourly street parking may also be available in the area. The second floor of the Davidson Building is accessible via stairs or elevator.
