Weston, a Florida insurance company licensed in Texas, was ordered by a Florida court to end its operations. Weston’s policies are cancelled effective 12:01 a.m. on September 7, 2022; unless otherwise terminated prior to that date. The following applies to Weston policyholders who live in TWIA’s designated catastrophe area.

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has made it easier for Weston policyholders to get a TWIA policy:
- More time to apply: You have until November 6, 2022, to apply for a TWIA policy that gives you coverage starting September 7 (this is the date Weston policies will be cancelled).
- Coverage even if a storm is on its way: Even if a storm is in the Gulf of Mexico, you can still buy a policy and be covered for wind and hail damage. (Normally, a TWIA policy cannot be purchased if a hurricane is coming into the Gulf of Mexico.) Policyholders must apply for a policy by November 6, 2022.
- No payment to start coverage: A temporary payment plan is available that gives you flexibility in paying your premium. You will not need to make a payment for the first three months of coverage. Weston policyholders must apply by November 6, 2022, to select this temporary payment plan.
