The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association’s Actuarial & Underwriting Committee met today and reviewed a presentation and report by actuarial consulting firm Willis Towers Watson (WTW) on TWIA’s rate adequacy and use of hurricane modeling in estimating potential losses in its rate-setting process.
The Committee voted to direct TWIA staff to work with WTW to gather additional data on the characteristics of properties insured by the Association and for WTW to provide an updated and more detailed report to the Committee; along with some additional analysis regarding modeling. The Committee further voted to meet the week of November 30, 2020 to review the updated information and report back to the TWIA Board of Directors, which is scheduled to meet on December 8, 2020.
Examples of additional data requested by the Committee include:
- Commercial business occupancy data
- Secondary risk characteristics
- Details from inspection reports
- Street-level geocoded data on TWIA policies
The Committee directed TWIA staff and WTW to gather as much of the recommended data as possible in time for the report to be updated and considered by the Committee when it next meets.
An archived recording of the Committee meeting is available on TWIA’s website at www.twia.org/about-us/board-of-directors/archived-meetings.
