Public Invited to Comment as TWIA’s Actuarial & Underwriting Committee Meets to Develop Rate Recommendation 

Essential Meeting Information:

  • TWIA’s Actuarial & Underwriting Committee will meet on July 15 to develop a recommendation to the TWIA Board on rates.

The Texas Windstorm Insurance Association’s (TWIA) Actuarial & Underwriting Committee will meet on Monday, July 15 at 10:00 am CT. The meeting agenda and meeting materials are available. 

The Committee will review the 2024 Rate Adequacy Analysis prepared by the Association’s actuarial staff, receive public comment, and consider whether to recommend a change in rates to TWIA’s Board of Directors. The Rate Adequacy Analysis indicates that TWIA’s current rates are inadequate by 38 percent for residential coverage and 45 percent for commercial coverage. 

On August 6, 2024, the TWIA Board will meet in Galveston to consider the rate adequacy analysis, the Committee’s recommendation, and stakeholder feedback when voting to decide on the Association’s annual required rate filing. All meetings of the TWIA Board of Directors and its committees are open to the public. The public may attend and make public comment for this meeting in person at TWIA’s office in Austin or virtually via Zoom. Members of the Committee and staff may participate in the meeting in person or virtually. The meeting will also be livestreamed on YouTube

Public Participation and Comment

TWIA is providing three methods for stakeholders to provide public comment to the Actuarial & Underwriting Committee: 

1) Written Public Comment 

Members of the public are invited to submit written comments via email at Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments by noon on Friday, July 12, to enable the Committee to receive and review them before the July 15 meeting. TWIA staff will provide the Committee with all written comments regardless of when they are received.

Written comments submitted to TWIA are subject to the Texas Public Information Act. TWIA will post public comments received, with personally identifiable information redacted, at the bottom of this web post. 

2) Virtual Verbal Public Comment via Zoom

Individuals wishing to make verbal public comment remotely during the meeting must register and log into the meeting via Zoom on a computer, tablet, smartphone, or telephone. 3) In-Person Verbal Public Comment at TWIA’s Office

Individuals wishing to make in-person verbal public comment must attend the meeting at TWIA’s office in Austin. TWIA staff will facilitate the public comment process; Committee members are expected to participate virtually.
