CAT Plan Activated
Published on: August 21, 2020We are closely monitoring developments related to Tropical Storm Laura and Tropical Depression 14 in the Caribbean. Considering the uncertainty surrounding the ultimate paths of these storms, TWIA has activated our Catastrophe (CAT) Plan out of an abundance of caution. Activating our CAT Plan allows us to start readying the resources we will need to respond to our policyholders should a storm make landfall in TWIA’s service area.
Both TWIA and TFPA are still accepting applications for new and increased coverage at this time. As a reminder, TWIA will not accept new or increased coverage applications once a windstorm designated as a hurricane by the National Weather Service is within the boundaries of 80 degrees west longitude and 20 degrees north latitude. If this happens, we will make a public announcement and will alert agents through an agent bulletin.
At this time, we urge everyone potentially in the path of these storms to take steps to protect the safety of themselves and their families and, to the extent possible, their property. TWIA policyholders or their agents whose insured properties sustain damage can file claims online at www.twia.org/claimscenter. Claims can also be filed by calling TWIA’s 24-hour Claims Center at (800) 788-8247.
