Protect Yourself from Phone Scams

Attention agents: Someone pretending to be a TWIA employee recently called a policyholder to try to obtain banking and credit card information. We urge agents and policyholders to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited phone calls or other forms of communication from anyone claiming to represent TWIA.

Like other organizations, the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association has encountered several phone scams. Please note the following:

  • TWIA will never request a policyholder’s Social Security Number for any purpose.
  • TWIA will not call policyholders for payments or other sensitive banking information over the phone.
  • All official communications from TWIA regarding premium payments will be provided in writing, via hard copy invoices, or electronically.

If a policyholder receives a phone call from someone claiming to be a TWIA representative, they should not provide personal and financial information. If they have any concerns about the authenticity of the phone call, they should hang up and contact us directly or contact you (their agent). Legitimate insurance representatives typically do not request sensitive details over the phone without prior confirmation. Please share this information with policyholders.
