TWIA Policy Cancellations and Refunds

Attention agents: We want to share a new resource that covers policy cancellations and refunds. We hope you and your clients find it helpful.

Policy Cancellations and Refunds Page
Please take a moment to review the Policy Cancellations and Refunds page. This page includes important considerations when submitting cancellation requests, including situations where cancellations may result in financial implications for policyholders.

Policyholder-Requested Cancellations
For TWIA policies cancelled at the request of the policyholder, TWIA is required to retain the entire annual premium, and no refund will be issued unless the cancellation reason is due to one of the following:

  • Coverage purchased elsewhere (similar coverage in the private market)
  • Death of the policyholder
  • Total loss of the property
  • Sale of the insured property

These requirements are outlined in House Bill 3208 and documented in Insurance Code Chapter 2210.204.

Submitting a Policy Cancellation
Agents can submit a policy cancellation request on behalf of their client through the TWIA Agent Portal.

Please note:

  • The policy must be in force and active at the time of submission
  • Supporting documentation is required to confirm the cancellation reason
  • Refund eligibility is determined based on the criteria listed above
