What Depopulation Could Mean for You

Depopulation encourages more insurers to write wind and hail coverage on the coast with the intention of increasing the adequacy of the market for coastal residents.

With the Assumption Reinsurance Depopulation Program, participating companies have to do the following:

  • Continue to offer the policyholder rates and coverages comparable to TWIA’s for three renewals.
  • Allow policyholders to keep their current insurance agent.
  • Allow policyholders to decline offers, and remain with TWIA.

Company requirements and policyholder protections differ with the Voluntary Market Depopulation Program, which allows companies to make offers at policy renewal.
